DECADE: Can buildings tell our story? Cultural buildings in Scotland

Join Architecture and Design Scotland for their third DECADE talk on Thursday 27 August.

In the past ten years Scotland’s cultural spaces have ramped up a gear – from Shetland through to the Borders, Lottery funded project have enabled a wide range of cultural buildings from the developments of new visitor centres to the reconfiguration of the key galleries and museums. These cultural buildings are where contemporary architecture is at its most accessible. This event will look at the people, elements and processes that work towards them – from to client to content. The event will also ask what lies ahead?

The speakers represent various aspects and roles from a broad variety of cultural buildings and the different content and activities they hold, including collections, historical events and movement.

Speakers:

The Programmer – Stephen Allen, Head of Learning and Programmes, National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh

The Architect – Malcolm Fraser, Malcolm Fraser Architects / Dance Base, Edinburgh, Royal Conservatoire, Speirs Lock and Scottish Ballet, Glasgow, and Museum nan Eilean, Stornoway.

The Exhibition Designer – Chris Walker, Managing Director, Bright White Ltd / Bannockburn Heritage Centre, Stirling

The Curator – Nat Edwards, NTS, Founding Director, Burns Museum, Alloway

The Director – Philip Long, Director, V&A Museum of Design Dundee

The event will be chaired by:
Gary Watt, igloo and Glasgow Canal Partnership.
Responsible for real estate and regeneration with creativity and culture at the heart of the place-making agenda.
