Nomad Watches
We recently popped into the studio belonging to one of Scotland’s newest contemporary watch brands, Nomad Watches to chat to them about the launch of their debut timepiece.
Hello! Could you please introduce yourselves?
Hi, we’re Kelsey and Alan and we are the founders of Nomad.
Can you tell us a little about what you both worked on prior to Nomad?
We were busy running our other business twistedtime.com. We started it about 5 years ago as a little hobby and it seemed to take off so we started working on it full time. Prior to that I worked as a make up artist and Alan worked in IT within the financial industry.
What was it that made you decide to create your own brand of watches?
Having worked within the watch industry for over five years, we felt that our perfect watch hadn’t yet been created – one that married finely tuned design with genuine quality. So we decided to make our own.
What made you select the name Nomad for the brand?
Both of us get itchy feet quite easily and don’t tend to stay in the same place for long periods of time so we wanted to reflect this in the brand name.
For your debut piece, you worked with industrial designer Samuel Wilkinson, can you tell us a bit about this collaboration?
We chose to work with Samuel as we have always been fans of his work. It was a bit of a no brainer for us really. The watch industry is quite saturated so it was refreshing to work with someone who wanted to create a watch that was unique and had it’s own signature.
What is it that keeps you based here in Glasgow?
We love Glasgow and Alan has lived here on and off for over 15 years. After moving around for a bit both of us moved back here about 6 years ago. We live in the Southside and are surrounded by beautiful parks that we love. However, we are actually thinking of moving to Vancouver within the next couple of years. I am from there originally and it would be nice to be closer to family. Plus there is only so much of the Scottish weather we can handle!
What are your plans for the rest of the year?
We will be busy working on our next Nomad release. We are in talks with a Swedish Design Studio and will hopefully be starting the design process soon.
